Cubs Giving Away Wrigley Field Sod For Free

(CBS) It's that time of year again.

After a series of recent concerts at Wrigley Field, the Cubs are laying new sod and making the old sod available to fans for free. The sod is available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the corner of Waveland and Clifton, which is just northwest of Wrigley Field.

Pickup for the sod started Thursday morning and runs through Saturday or until it's gone.

The Cubs (89-50) lead the NL Central by 15.5 games and have a magic number of nine to clinch the division. They have one seven-game homestand left and assuming they clinch the NL Central, they will open the NLDS at Wrigley Field on Oct. 7.
