Cubs Fans Headed To Playoff Games Should Show Up Early

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Cubs open the National League Division Series on Friday, the first of what they hope will be three playoff series in the next month, culminating in a World Series win.

First things first, a tough matchup in a best-of-five division series against the Giants.

One ticket broker said the prices for secondary market tickets to the Cubs' home playoff games are the highest of any Major League Baseball team. That's why fans showed up at Wrigley Field as early as 2:30 a.m. Friday, in case seats become available from the team box office at face value.

Fans got into the spirit Thursday night, as eight bars in the Rush and Division area hosted a Cubs playoff pep rally.

Cubs-Giants: How they stack up

The Cubs have asked fans with tickets to get to Wrigley Field at least three hours before the 8:15 p.m. first pitch, to allow time to get through security.

"We started using metal detectors this year, which has been very successful,"Cubs spokesman Julian Green said. "Obviously, we were encouraging fans as early as Opening Day to get here as early as possible."

Officials have advised anyone planning to attend the games at Wrigley Field to take public transportation or take advantage of remote parking, which is located at 3900 N. Rockwell St. and includes free shuttle service to and from the ballpark.

If you're taking an Uber or Lyft, the drop-off and pick-up area is about a half mile north of Wrigley Field, on Irving Park Road, between Clark Street and Seminary Avenue. Taxis will pick up and drop off passengers on Addison at Halsted or Racine.

For added security in Wrigleyville, all outside trash cans around the stadium have been removed. Police said they will also secure mailboxes and newspaper dispensers in the area.

If you do see anything suspicious or want to report unruly behavior, you can text the Cubs at 69050. Obviously, if it's an emergency, don't wait to call 911.
