Cubs Fan Turning Extra Playoff Ticket Into Cancer Fundraiser
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Cubs fan with an extra ticket for Saturday night's playoff game at Wrigley Field is willing to part with it for charity.
Anna Petras, 24, was lucky enough to be able to buy three terrace reserved outfield tickets, because her name was one of those the Cubs picked at random for their playoff ticket lottery.
Petras said, at first, she wanted to take her grandmother "because she loves the Cubs," but she said her "yia-yia" had knee issues and couldn't go. So she decided to take her brother, who introduced her to Cubs baseball when she was a young girl.
That left one ticket, and instead of just taking someone else, Petras decided to auction it off with the proceeds going to the Mayo Clinic Esophageal Cancer Department.
"My best friend lost her father to esophageal cancer in 2015, and seven years prior to that my uncle passed away from esophageal cancer," she said.
Petras called her fundraiser for esophageal cancer research "Billy Goats for Throats." Its logo is a Cubs "C" with a goat in the middle.
As of early afternoon, only one person had bid: Petras' sister, who bid $250.
"She really wants to go to the game, and so it's kind of a win-win," Petras said. "If no one else bids, it would be kind of sad, but I would love to go to the game with her."
