Cubs DFA Clayton Richard To Make Room For Aroldis Chapman

(CBS) The Cubs have designated left-handed reliever Clayton Richard for assignment to make room for newly acquired closer Aroldis Chapman.

The move means Richard's time at the big league level with the Cubs is over. Richard can accept a minor league assignment if he clears waivers, or the club will have 10 days to place him to trade him or release him.

Richard is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 14 innings for the Cubs this season.

Chapman will be available for the Cubs' game against the White Sox on Tuesday evening.
