Cubs Clinch Playoff Berth
(CBS) The Chicago Cubs are back in the playoffs.
For the first time since 2008, the Cubs have clinched a spot in the postseason. It became official on Friday night, with San Francisco falling 5-4 to Oakland.
With a record of 89-64, the Cubs are likely bound for the NL wild-card game, which would create a matchup in Pittsburgh if the season ended presently. The Pirates are currently in Chicago for a three-game series.
The Cubs had the opportunity to clinch the playoff spot on their own Friday but fell 3-2 to Pittsburgh, failing to secure the berth.
With the postseason clinched, the Cubs can seek their first World Series win since 1908.
