Cubs Claim RHP Ryan Cook Off Waivers From Red Sox

(CBS) The Cubs have claimed right-hander reliever Ryan Cook off waivers from the Red Sox, they announced Friday.

Cook, 28, spent most of the 2015 season in Triple-A, first in Oakland's organization and then in Boston's. His limited time in the big leagues most recently was an abject disaster, as he allowed 18 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings for an ERA of 18.69 this past season in nine appearances.

In a 2014 in which he was hampered by injuries, Cook had a 3.42 ERA in 54 appearances for the Athletics. He has a career 3.43 ERA.

The Cubs' 40-man roster now stands at 30 players.
