Cubs' Bonifacio Sets A Modern Day Record With Hot Start

(CBS) With a 9-for-12 start at the plate this season, Cubs utilityman and leadoff hitter Emilio Bonifacio has set a modern day MLB record for most hits in the season's first two games, according to CBSSports.com.

Bonifacio went 4-for-5 in Monday's opener and 5-for-7 last night. He's been helped by a few extra at-bats as the Cubs have lost in 10 and 16 innings, respectively, in this new season, but that should take little away from a man who's hitting .750.

The previous record for the most hits through two games was eight, which had been accomplished four times, the most by Dante Bichette in 1998.
