Cubs Acquire P Matt Brazis From Mariners In Exchange For OF Justin Ruggiano

(CBS) The Cubs have traded outfielder Justin Ruggiano to the Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Matt Brazis.

The 25-year-old Brazis split time between Single-A and Double-A in 2014, going a combined 4-1 with a 2.36 ERA and six saves in 40 appearances. He struck out 84 and walked 18 in 72 1/3 innings.

Brazis was originally picked by Seattle in the 28th round of the 2012 amateur draft.

The 32-year-old Ruggiano was a regular contributor to the Cubs outfield last season but wasn't viewed as a building block in any way as Chicago's young talent matriculates its way to the big leagues in a rebuild. Ruggiano hit .281 with six homers and 28 RBIs in 81 games in 2014.
