Cubs Acquire LHP Jack Leathersich Off Waivers From Mets

(CBS) The Cubs stayed busy Thursday in fortifying their bullpen with low-profile moves.

After signing right-handed reliever Andury Acevedo earlier in the day, the Cubs acquired left-handed reliever Jack Leathersich off waivers from the Mets. Leathersich, 25, was 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for the Mets last season, his first in the big leagues. He had 14 strikeouts in those 17 appearances.

Leathersich's season was cut short when he had Tommy John surgery in late July. He's expected to be back mis-summer 2016, according to ESPN.com's Adam Rubin.

He was originally of fifth-round pick of the Mets in 2011.

Leathersich appeared thrilled by the move to the Cubs.

The Cubs' 40-man roster now sits at 32 players.
