Person hit, killed by CTA Yellow Line train in Skokie

SKOKIE, Ill. (CBS) -- A person was struck and killed by a CTA Yellow Line train in Skokie Saturday night.

Skokie police said they were called to the Dempster Yellow Line terminal, 505 Dempster St., at 6:46 p.m. They learned a pedestrian had been on the tracks at the station – which is at grade level – and had been hit by a train.

Police said all the signal devices were working properly at the time.

The pedestrian died after being hit by the train. The train and operator remained at the scene.

The Chicago Transit Authority said whole Yellow Line, which connects the Howard Terminal in Rogers Park with Skokie, was completely shut down as of 7:30 p.m. No. 97 Skokie and shuttle buses were advised as alternatives.

Police said there would be no trains west of the Oakton Street stop for the rest of the night.
