2 dead, 1 hurt in crash on Interstate 57

CHICAGO (CBS) -- All lanes of northbound Interstate 57 have reopened several hours after two people were killed and another person was injured in a crash near south suburban Posen.

Illinois State Police said a car was headed north on I-57 when it crashed near 147th Street shortly before 2 a.m.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and another person later died at the hospital. A third person in the car was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

All northbound lanes of I-57 were closed at 147th Street for about seven hours after the crash, but all lanes reopened shortly after 9 a.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
