2 people hurt in crash on busy Irving Park Road

Two cars were wrecked and two people suffered injuries in a crash on busy Irving Park Road in the neighborhood of the same name early Monday morning.

Police said at 3:03 a.m., a 34-year-old woman was driving a light-colored Kia sedan west on Irving Park Road at Christiana Avenue with three occupants.

The driver of the Kia tried to overtake the right lane and hit a light-colored Volkswagen sedan headed in the same direction, police said.

The Kia struck a tree nearby, while the Volkswagen hit a residential building, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The woman driving the Kia was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition with trauma throughout her body.

A 38-year-old man who had been in the Kia suffered lacerations and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic in good condition. A 26-year-old man and a third man from the Kia refused medical treatment.

Irving Park Road was closed along the half-block from Christiana and Kimball avenues following the crash. Drivers were advised to head north to Montrose Avenue or south to Addison Street.

No citations had been issued Monday morning. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
