CPS Principals Joining Budget Discussion
(CBS) -- Facing massive budget cuts, Chicago Public Schools principals are joining the cry for lawmakers to find the answers to fund the schools.
Teachers often take center stage in the fight against state budget cuts. Principals like Nate Pietrini and Maurice Swinney are usually one the sidelines. But not this year, CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.
They've gone public with a letter to state and local politicians to find the $480 million needed to fund public schools and avoid mid-year budget cuts. At a small high school like Tilden, it means a loss of $200,000, or at least three teachers.
In the next couple of week, principals expect information from the Chicago Board of Education on what budget cuts will look like, if they happen.
Those cuts would take affect after the semester ends in early February.
