CPS Cancels Classes Monday

CHICAGO—Chicago Public Schools officials have canceled classes on Monday because of this weekend's blizzard.

"The National Weather Service updated its forecast early Sunday evening to indicate the city could receive up to an additional five inches of snow by midnight, in addition to the 14 inches of snow already received," CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said in a written statement issued Sunday. "This level of snowfall will present many challenges for our children. Out of an abundance of caution, and so parents have time to prepare, we are cancelling classes for Monday."

CPS buildings will remain open and accept students who still arrive at schools. Libraries and park district buildings will be open Monday, too, officials said.

Parents can call (773) 553-1000 or visit the CPS website for more information. All after-school and sporting activities have also been cancelled.
