CPS Bringing High-Speed Internet To Every Classroom
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Every classroom at the Chicago Public Schools should have broadband wireless Internet access by next school year, thanks to a $38 million federal grant announced Tuesday.
You might call it "No Child Left Offline."
Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool said a grant through the Federal Communications Commission means, by next year, every CPS student will have access to high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi in the classrooms.
"This is a $38 million project, and it never would have happened without the dedication, skill, and vision of Mayor Emanuel, who relentlessly pursued the federal funding for this wiring of all of our public schools," he said.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who joined Claypool for the announcement, said online learning doesn't replace traditional classroom instruction, but will enhance it.
