CPS hosts Back-to-School Bash at Davis Square Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The countdown is on to the beginning of another school year.

Chicago Public Schools officials on Friday threw a Back-to-School Bash in Davis Square Park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, offering a day of free fun for students and parents.

Volunteers handed out school supplies, and answered questions to get everyone prepared for the new school year.

"I think it's really good, because they're getting involved with the whole community together. So it's bringing everybody together," parent Patricia Rivera said.

CPS is hosting a dozen more of these Back-to-School Bashes across the city leading up to the first day of school on Aug. 21.

You can find the schedule at cps.edu/sites/back-to-school.
