Chicago police officer fires shots at shooting suspect in South Shore

COPA investigating Chicago police shooting in South Shore

A Chicago police officer fired shots at a shooting suspect during a foot chase Friday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

Police said, shortly after 2 p.m., police officers saw an "armed offender" fire multiple shots at another person in the 2000 block of East 71st Street and run off. The officers started chasing the supsect, and one of the officers fired their weapon at the suspect, who got away.

No one was in custody Friday afternoon, and no injuries were reported.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability confirmed it is investigating.

The officers involved will be placed on administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days while COPA investigates.
