Cook County Nature Preserves Holding Annual Big Sit Bird Watching Event Next Weekend

(CBS) -- One of the fastest growing recreational events in the country will take place next weekend in six Cook County nature preserves.

It's the annual Big Sit bird watching event.

Forest Preserve Superintendent Arnold Randall says it's your chance to see some of the most spectacular bird species and learn about the forest preserve.

"Nature centers are a great place to get connected for folks for the first time, especially if you are not sure what to do or where to go in the forest preserve we recommend the nature centers," said Randall. "They are education centers basically for folks to understand about these natural lands and great spaces."

The Big Sit is May 7,between 5:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. It'll be held at nature preserves in Barrington Hills, River Forest, Willow Springs, Northbrook, Lemont and South Holland. There will also be additional activities for kids.
