Coalition Of Faith Groups Protest Rauner's Budget Cuts Outside Chicago Board Of Trade

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A coalition of faith based groups gathered today in front of the Chicago Board of Trade to protest Governor Rauner's budget cuts, reports Mariam Sobh.

They are part of an alliance called Fair Economy Illinois and they want Rauner to tax the wealthy and stop cutting funds to social services.

"We want to send a strong message to Governor Rauner that the proposed cuts in his budget are devastating to our society," said Wendy Witt, a pastor with the First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple.

She was joined by about 100 people at Jackson and LaSalle. About a dozen of them moved into the street to block traffic as an act of civil disobedience. They were arrested and cited for failure to exercise due care and will have to make a court appearance at a later date.
