Clerk, Boyfriend Charged With Elmhurst Gas Station Theft
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Lombard woman and her boyfriend have been charged with robbing the gas station where she works, in a case which police first believed was also an abduction.
Police were called to the Shell gas station at the intersection of Route 64 and Route 83 in Elmhurst early Tuesday, to conduct a well-being check on clerk Simone Boyd, 21. Police did not find Boyd at the gas station, but discovered signs of a robbery.
When investigators reviewed surveillance video from the gas station, they saw a man entering the store, jumping over the counter, taking cash from the register, and leaving with Boyd.
Police said Boyd and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Brandon Morris, of Melrose Park, later were found in Cook County, and police recovered the proceeds from the robbery.
Boyd and Morris both have been charged with felony theft, and were being held at the DuPage County Jail. Elmhurst police said the two staged the robbery together.
