Classes To Resume Wednesday For Chicago Public Schools
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After two days off for the extreme cold, classes will resume Wednesday for all Chicago Public Schools.
CPS officials cancelled classes on Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures both days were below zero throughout the day, with wind chills as low as 30 below around the time students would have been going to school.
Though temperatures Wednesday will start out around zero, or slightly below zero, the mercury will rise to about 20 degrees by Wednesday afternoon.
CPS said it has not yet determined when students will make up the two missed days of classes.
The school year for students already was extended by one day earlier this month, when CPS set June 11 as a makeup date for one of the two days of classes missed for extreme cold on Jan. 6 and 7. The other makeup date was March 28.
The only remaining days off of class for students on the CPS calendar are either holidays -- Lincoln's birthday and Memorial Day -- or spring break in mid-April, or parent-teacher conference and report card pickup day on April 7. Unless CPS chooses one of those dates as a makeup date, the school year would have to be extended again beyond June 11.
