City Pothole Crews To Focus On Main Streets On Mondays, Fridays

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Emanuel says city pothole-patching crews are going to be deployed in a new way to get more potholes filled and faster.

Mayor Emanuel suggests there was no set plan for filling potholes before, aside from filling 311 call requests and any additional potholes crews would encounter.

Now, main streets will be specifically tackled on Mondays and Fridays in a grid system. The Mayor said ti would be more efficient.

"Folks are talking about it, rightfully so because the streets look like what winter has left us," said Emanuel.

Mayor Emanuel says an audit still going on has so far encountered two contractors whose repaving work last year didn't hold up. The city plans to charge them the cost of patching those streets.

Extra crews concentrating on main streets will add up to 25,000 additional potholes filled during March. It's also adds up to more money, but City officials insist it won't bust the budget.
