City Now Accepting Nominations For Daley Plaza Christmas Tree

(CBS) -- The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Event will begin accepting tree nominations beginning September 8-26.

The family of the winning tree will get the opportunity to flip the switch to light the tree during the week of Thanksgiving.

In order to be eligible, all trees must be at least 55 feet or taller, spruce or fir trees work best and pine trees are ineligible, all submissions must include three photographs, one from afar and two from up close, the tree must be located within 100 miles of Chicago's Loop and the names of the owners and along with addresses and contact information must be submitted in the nomination.

The winner in 2013 was a 57-foot Colorado blue spruce nominated by the Moore family of South Holland.

Nominations can be sent by email to dcase@cityofchicago.org by mail to the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, ATTN: Christmas Tree Submission, 78 E. Washington St., Chicago, IL 60602 (must be postmarked by September 26). Chicago's 101st Annual Christmas Tree will be announced in late October.
