City Council Committee Backs Expanding O'Hare Noise Commission
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Aldermen have given preliminary approval to a plan to expand the panel that monitors noise problems near O'Hare International Airport.
WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports the City Council Aviation Committee has recommended the 40th Ward have a representative on the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission.
Ald. Patrick O'Connor (40th) said that's because changing flight patterns around the airport have created noise problems where they did not previously exist.
"At the west end of my ward, clearly there's interest in trying to see what's happening, and monitor the noise, and I think it's appropriate," he said. "If it's something affecting residents of my community, then I think we should have some representation on the commission to make sure that we're there when solutions are being discussed."
Some other aldermen said their wards also have been affected by noise from new flight patterns at O'Hare, and O'Connor said he supports adding other representatives to the noise commission.
