City Candidates File Nominating Petitions For February Elections
(CBS) -- Over 120 candidates or their aides waited in line with boxes and bales of paper and signatures to get themselves on the City of Chicago ballot next February, reports WBBM's John Cody.
Election Board spokesman Jim Allen said 125 candidates or their aides were ready with signatures by the 9 a.m. office opening at the board's headquarters at 69 W Washington, somewhat down from 176 at this time four years ago.
"I think we are going to have more candidates file later because there is a higher signature requirement for alderman this year, much higher 473," Allen said. "In a lot of wards, it was as little as 180 or even 90 four years ago but after redistricting it is all based on percentage of the votes cast in 2011."
The positions to be filled include mayor of Chicago, treasurer, aldermen for 50 wards, with another lottery due at week's end for those seeking the last spot ballot to avoid being stuck in a middle position.
