City Adds More Crews To Repair Potholes

CHICAGO (CBS) --- The city is putting more bodies behind the effort to keep up the terrible pothole season, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

Chicago Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Tom Carney was watching crews filling potholes at Randolph and Halsted and said they have added crews to try to keep up.

"We have a seasonal workforce. We are recalling that seasonal workforce in a bit early so we can add to our pothole crews and get more crews out on the streets to expand both crews on the weekends and during the Monday-through-Friday so we have extra pothole repair," said Carney.

"We think with adding the extra crews we can get about 25,000 more potholes filled in the month of March. We are operating under the mayor's directive to keep the roads passable," said Carney.

As any Chicagoan knows, some places are barely passable. People are encouraged to report potholes by calling 311 or on the city's website.
