Firefighters battle large blaze in Cicero, Illinois; Chicago Fire Department called in to help
Cicero and Chicago firefighters are battling a large fire in a commercial area of the west suburb on 25th Place.
The fire broke out at 2505 W. 25th Place in the 3 p.m. hour, drawing a large response from the Cicero Fire Department. The Chicago Fire Department was called in by those fire officials to assist.
A spokesperson for the town of Cicero said firefighters were called to Mando's Auto Repair for reports of a structure fire, and when they arrived all employees were out of the building.
Video posted by a witness to the Citizen App showed massive flames and smoke billowing from beside and underneath an overpass.
As of 4 p.m. the fire has been brought under control and confined to the back of the building, and there are no reports of any injuries.
Laramie Avenue is shut down due to the firefighting efforts and traffic is being redirected. The Cicero spokesperson said there are also downed power lines and ComEd will be shutting off power to the building soon, which is expected to be a total loss.
The spokesperson did not have any information about how the fire started or what caused it.
The area where the fire is located has several large commercial buildings. It is the same area where police were called to a standoff between federal immigration agents and community members in late October.
