Christmas Cards Flood In For New York Girl Burned By Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's not Christmas yet, but an 8-year-old girl from New York is already getting her wish.

Two years ago, Safyre Terry lost her family and was left disfigured in a fire. People from around the world have been moved by the 8-year-old girl's Christmas wish: Christmas cards to fill her spiral card tree.

When her aunt posted the wish on Facebook, it went viral; and, on Wednesday, the family got a huge shipment of cards.

"You know what it is, is the message, her message is out. Her message is out to the world now, and that's what we're happy about," said her aunt, Liz Dolder.

Two years ago, Safyre lost her father and three younger siblings in an arson fire. Burned on over 75 percent of her body, she has undergone countless surgeries, and lost her left foot and right hand.

The cards helped make this a memorable holiday.

"Today's the first day, and we already have over 100 letters and cards, and multiple packages and parcels that have come in for her," said John Reilly, Postmaster for Schenectady, N.Y.

You can send a card to Safyre at this address:
