Chris O'Donnell Helping Teach Good Sportsmanship
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A well-known actor from Chicago has taken on a new role: promoting good sportsmanship in children's athletics.
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports Chris O'Donnell – star of NCIS: Los Angeles, and an actor in such films as "Scent of a Woman" – grew up in Chicago's northern suburbs, playing sports as a child.
He said his parents and coaches instilled a sense of civility in him and his teammates. Now, as a father of five, he said things are different.
"I've been a coach, I've been a referee, and you see so many situations that come up where either kids not behaving right or a parent in the stands is yelling at a ref," he said.
O'Donnell – whose late father, William C. O'Donnell, was a general manager of WBBM Newsradio – has teamed up with Liberty Mutual Insurance to promote better behavior in youth sports. You can find more information about the Play Positive program by clicking here.
