Chipotle Launches Chorizo Nationwide

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chipotle Mexican Grill launched Tuesday chorizo, a spicy sausage as a new meat option an all U.S. locations.

Chorizo was tested in June in five markets, resulting in positive feedback.

"The reaction to chorizo in the cities that have had it has been overwhelmingly positive, so we're making it available in all of our restaurants across the country," said Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle in a statement. "Our chorizo is made with Responsibly Raised chicken and pork, and provides a delicious new option that fits perfectly with the rest of our menu."

Just in time for National Taco Day, Chipotle launched chorizo in a timely manner on Oct. 4. The company wanted to offer its customers a new option for tacos on the fun 'holiday' and the rest of the year.

Chipotle's chorizo, made with a blend of pork and white-meat chicken is seasoned with paprika, toasted cumin and chipotle peppers, then seared and charred.

Chorizo is available in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads.
