Child Killed In Bensenville Fire

(CBS) -- A child is dead and a second member of a Bensenville family sustained minor injuries in a house fire Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the home, at 1555 W. Devon Av., at about 2 p.m. They found smoke and fire on two sides of the house, and a family member told them a child was trapped inside. Firefighters could not initially get into the building to search for the child because of the volume of flames. When they could, they found the child, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Firefighters made a frantic effort to search for the baby. By the time they found the child the child was deceased," said David Traiforos wit the Bensenville Fire Department.

The injured family member was treated at Alexian Brothers Hospital, in Elk Grove Village. Six other family members escaped the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office.
