Child Hospitalized With Ebola-Like Symptoms Discharged; Tests Negative

(CBS/STMW) -- A child admitted for observation to a hospital early Friday after displaying Ebola-like symptoms at O'Hare International Airport was discharged Saturday morning according to hospital officials.

The child was admitted for observation to rule out the virus, according to a statement from the University of Chicago Medical Center. The child was isolated "under strict quarantine protocols until the child's condition improves and a diagnosis is established."

Federal authorities found the child had a fever but no other symptoms of Ebola during screening at O'Hare, the statement said. Test results for Ebola were negative.

"Please be reminded that there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in Chicago," the hospital statement said. "There is no threat to the public, our staff and our patients. "

The University of Chicago is one of the Ebola treatment facilities identified by the U.S. CDC. Clinics and operating rooms remain on their normal schedules, according to the statement.
