Boy, 6, Injured In Dog Attack
CHICAGO (CBS) – A 6-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was attacked by a dog Monday evening in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports the boy's family was worried, because the dog was still roaming the streets Tuesday morning.
Armani McKinnis was attending a birthday party around 6:15 p.m. Monday, and was playing with other kids outside near 74th Street and Champlain Avenue, when two dogs ran around the corner. One of the dogs then attacked Armani for unknown reasons.
When police arrived they found the boy had been bitten on the face and leg. His injuries were so severe, he had to be rushed into emergency surgery at Comer Children's Hospital.
"His whole face is just … on one side, it's just demolished. It's just torn apart, said his grandmother, Teresa Shegog.
Neither dog was captured after the attack. Armani's father, Sidney Upchurch, said the family was offering a $500 reward for information leading to the animals' capture.
"We want those dogs just so we can make sure they don't have rabies, or anything," Upchurch said.
They also want to make sure the dog who attacked Armani does not attack anyone else.
Armani's condition was stabilized at Comer after surgery overnight.
