Chicago Woman Who Suffers From Epilepsy Celebrating First Mother's Day After 'Miracle' Birth

(CBS) -- A Chicago woman is celebrating her first Mother's Day after what she calls a miracle birth of twins this past week, reports WBBM's Lisa Fielding.

32-year-old Lisa Lahey suffers from epilepsy, so her medication prevented her from becoming pregnant.

"We started trying to get pregnant when I turned 28, 29 and you just never think that it is going to be as difficult as it was," Lahey said.

After switching up the meds, several miscarriages and three failed in vitro fertilizations, Lahey and her husband traveled to Denver for one last try.

"I got pregnant with a boy and a girl, twins," Lahey said. "They were born on Cinco De Mayo, May 5, and we just took him home yesterday."

Lahey calls her twins "miracle babies."

"There were days where I was just kind of in disbelief," she said. "We had tried so long you kind of start to give up after a while so they truly are a miracle. It's the best Mother's Day gift ever, especially being my first Mother's Day."

Cooper Robert and Lily Elizabeth are doing well and celebrating with their mother at home. Lahey says she is living proof that women should never give up hope.
