Chicago Weather: Strong Winds, Heavy Rain Thursday Night

CHICAGO (CBS) -- We are on the northern edge of a major storm that is spawning tornadoes across Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Look for high winds and heavy rain overnight. Strong north winds will build waves 9 to 13 feet.

Many areas could end up with more than 1 inch of rain Thursday night, with a low of 35.

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, and 7 a.m. for Northwest Indiana. A Lakeshore Flood Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, and 1 p.m. for Indiana beaches.

After about 3 a.m., rain tapers off. The morning rush Friday will be cloudy and dry.

On Saturday, look for showers and thunderstorms with a high of 66. On Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 53.
