Chicago Weather: Steady Snow Overnight

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Road temperatures continued to fall Monday evening as the snow bands moved through, causing slick roads and crashes.

Elevated surfaces are especially slippery.

High winds Monday night may cause snow to blow around, dropping visibility. Wind chill values are in the teens.

The best snow accumulation is likely between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

For amounts, we expect 1 to 2 inches, with isolated 3-inch totals closer to the Wisconsin state line.

Snow quickly ends Tuesday morning. Clouds linger through the afternoon. The high for Tuesday is 31.

But it will be clear and quiet for New Year's celebrations. The low will drop to 24.
