Chicago Weather: Severe Storms Wind Down After Striking Some Parts Of Chicago Area Yet Again

CHICAGO (CBS) -- For the fourth time in three days, a severe weather event swept into the Chicago area Wednesday night.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the southern half of Kane County and for DuPage County. It was in place until 9:45 p.m. A subsequent severe thunderstorm warning was issued for DuPage and western Cook counties until 10:30 p.m.

Both have since expired. The storm appeared to be winding down and the radar was quiet at 11 p.m., but more thunderstorms could yet happen in the overnight hours.

Earlier, CBS 2 Meteorologist Robb Ellis reported there were concerns about rotation with the storm system, and severe winds were also associated with the system. The National Weather Service said a tornado was possible, but there were never any tornado watches or warnings this time.

A severe thunderstorm watch is still in effect until 3 a.m. for the entire CBS 2 viewing area.

Earlier, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for Racine and northern Kenosha counties in Wisconsin. That system moved out across the lake toward Michigan.

The storms poised to hit the Chicago area Wednesday evening will likely arrive between 9 p.m. and midnight. The exit for the area may not happen until midnight to 2 a.m.
