Chicago Weather: Isolated Storms In Indiana Late Monday; Unseasonable Cool To Follow

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Severe storms did not materialize for the immediate Chicago area Monday night, but isolated severe thunderstorm cells persisted for southern Newton and Jasper counties in Northwest Indiana in the late evening.

Earlier in the afternoon, University of Illinois Atmospheric Science Professor Steve Nesbitt reported a tornado was confirmed northwest of Springfield.

After the storms, cool changes are on the way on Tuesday with below-average temperatures for the next seven days.

The normal high is 66 degrees. On Tuesday, temperatures will struggle, with highs in the 50s.

A cool, north wind will keep lakefront temps in the lower 50s.

A few showers are possible, but the rain chance is running at 20 percent.
