Chicago Weather: Tracking The New Year's Day Storm

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Dry air allows for clearing toward Thursday morning, after the low drops to 20 Wednesday night.

It will be a dry day on Thursday and right through the midnight hour as we ring in the New Year. The high for Thursday is 32, while the low for New Year's Eve night is 25.

The next storm develops over eastern Texas tomorrow and brings us a wintry mix on New Year's Day, starting mid-morning. Freezing rain, rain, and snow will create hazardous road conditions.

Ice accumulation is possible, especially south of I-80. And snow may accumulate for our northwest suburbs.

The wintry mix is due to the current storm track.

This could change. If the track jogs farther north, we will receive mainly cold rain. If it tracks more to the south, we could end up with more snow.
