Chicago Weather: Thunder Through Midnight

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Shower and storm chances stay with us through midnight.

The first round of storms plowed through the city of Chicago as of just after 6 p.m. Meanwhile, storm spotters saw what might be a rotating wall cloud just to the north and northwest of Morris.

Quarter-inch hail was also reported.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued earlier for LaSalle County. No watches or warnings were in effect in the immediate Chicago area as of 6 p.m., but some remained in effect for Central Illinois.

The National Weather Service warned that several areas of storms would persist through 9:30 p.m., particularly along and south of Interstate 80 and into Northwest Indiana.

Once the cold front passes, the storm threat ends and winds become west-northwest. This wind flow will pull cooler air into the Chicago area.
