Chicago Weather: Arctic Blast Coming Wednesday Night, Snow Coming Friday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Arctic air and gusty northwest winds will create morning rush wind chills from minus 5 to 10 degrees on Thursday morning.
The Arctic ridge of high pressure will lock in place and keep sunny skies in the forecast, but temperatures struggle. Highs will only be in the low to mid 20s, but wind chills in the single digits and teens will persist all day long.
The Arctic air mass will be waiting in place as our next weather system heads our way on Friday. How much snow we see will depend on the storm track. Right now it looks like the low will pass right over us, allowing for most snow to fall at night.
But mild air mixes in from the south after about 3am and changes the snow to rain. If it stays on that track, snow totals would be cut down due to the changeover to rain.
The best snow chance looks to line up near the Wisconsin counties with lesser amounts to the south.
This all moves out by noon Saturday.
