Chicago Teacher Arrested After Inappropriate Relationship With Student

CHICAGO (CBS) – A Chicago teacher was arrested Thursday for an alleged incident involving one of her students.

A person reported Monday possible misconduct between a female teacher and a student at Urban Prep Academy's West Campus, an all-boys school.

Police said the incident happened during school hours, CBS 2's Lauren Victory reports.

A 29-year-old faculty member was arrested Thursday police said. Detectives spent nearly an hour inside the school on Friday.

"I was shocked," said parent, Cassandra Ivory. "Me and friends of mine, we've discussed teachers and students having relations and we always thought it was unprofessional. You're here to educate, not have an intimate relationship with a student."

Specifics to the allegations have not been disclosed.

The female teacher is now on administrative leave. Urban Prep will perform an internal investigation. School administrators have declined to answer questions about teacher background checks.

The Department of Child and Family Services is also on the case.

No charges have been filed, police said.
