Chicago Suburbs Target For Super High-Speed Internet

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Customers seeking super-fast Internet download speed are in for a treat, although a pricey one.

AT&T has announced that some Chicago suburbs can sign up for "GigaPower"--with speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

At that rate, users could download two dozen songs in less than a second, and an entire HD movie in about 35 seconds, according to a release from AT&T.

The service is available in parts of Elgin, Oswego, Plainfield, Skokie and Yorkville.

Chicago proper is expected to see the service this summer.

The high-speeds do come at a price, depending on your plan.

GigaPower service alone starts at $120 a month, but customers can get a discount if they bundle their television and phone with AT&T, with those packages starting from $150 (TV/Internet) and $180 (TV/Internet/Phone).
