Chicago Startup Nominated For Award From American Diabetes Association

(CBS) -- Diabetes is a growing problem. That's why Thursday's World Health Day was dedicated to the disease.

CBS 2's Sandra Torres sat down with one Chicago woman who is up for a prize from the American Diabetes Association for her efforts to help people keep their condition in check.

"Habitnu is all about reversing the course of diabetes," Sindhu Rajan says of the app she has helped develop.

The program helps patients manage their diabetes. People can use the app on their smartphone to begin healthy habits.

Rajan says at least 200 people have signed up for the pilot program so far, and they're seeing great results.

There are two other Chicago-based startup companies that are up for the award when the annual Diabetes Expo takes place at McCormick Place.
