Chicago Snow Forecast: A Visual Look At The Storm

CHICAGO (CBS) -- How much snow will you have to shovel this weekend?

The winter storm looming off to the west of Chicago is one of those "it depends where you live" models.

To help you plan better, I have gathered a few helpful visuals. (Click on each image to enlarge.)

Atmospheric scientist Ryan Maue tweeted this detailed map of predicted snowfall accumulations.

Here is an animated look at the storm's path. As you can see, it's a pretty narrow band. The first snow in the northern suburbs might not fall until after dinner.

Here is another perspective of forecast snow totals. Again, the amount of snow varies depending on your location. Note how living right near Lake Michigan will keep your totals much lower than those living just a few miles to the west.
