Two Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide On Chicago Skyway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The eastbound lanes of the Chicago Skyway were shut down for nearly six hours Wednesday morning, after a man shot and killed a woman, and then took his own life, police said.

Chicago police said a car was headed east on the Skyway near the toll plaza at 88th Street shortly after 4 a.m., when 49-year-old Lisa Fischer jumped out and began running away.

Christopher M. Pena, 30, got out of the car while it was still moving, and fired several shots at Fischer, striking her in the body. The car then crashed into a median separating the eastbound lanes from the westbound lanes, police said.

A responding police officer saw Pena running back toward the vehicle, and when the officer told him to stop, Pena pulled out a handgun and shot himself in the head.

Police said both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of the Skyway were shut down for nearly six hours as police investigated. The lanes reopened around 10 a.m.
