Woman struck by stray bullet through window of Chicago home

Stray bullet hits woman inside home in Pullman

A woman was struck by a stray bullet through the window of a home in the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago's South Side early Friday morning.

Police said the 57-year-old woman was standing near a front window of the house, located in the 11800 block of South Lafayette Avenue, when she was hit by gunfire just before 2:30 a.m.

The victim was taken to Christ Hospital with a gunshot wound to the thigh. She was listed in serious condition

The victim was back home Friday afternoon in south suburban Park Forest, after being released from the hospital. She said she was visiting a friend in Chicago at the time she was shot.

The person who lives in the home said she's disabled, and her windows have been boarded up because of a shooting outside her building in June.

The victim said she's disabled as well, and was standing near the front window when she was shot.

The shooting happened in an area of the South Side known as the "Wild Hundreds," where residents said they see quite a bit of violence.

No arrests have been made.

Area Two detectives were investigating.
