Chicago River Dyed Blue For Cubs World Series Parade And Rally

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Even the Chicago River was wearing blue on Friday to celebrate the World Series champion Chicago Cubs.

Three boats motored up and down the Chicago River downtown on Friday, dumping about 90 pounds of blue dye into the water, similar to the way the river is dyed Kelly green for St. Patrick's Day.

Although the water didn't quite reach the same shade of blue as the Cubs uniforms, it was bluer than ever.

Plumbers Union Local 130, which dyed the river, said the water downtown likely will stay blue for 5 to 6 hours, depending on the weather.

The union said more sun should keep the water blue longer, but they aren't totally sure how long the dye will last, since they've only ever dyed the water Kelly green for St. Patrick's Day. In very rare cases, the dye can last up to 24 hours.
