Chicago Public Schools Teacher Charged With Child Pornography

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A second-grade teacher at CPS school in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood has been charged with possessing child pornography.

Eric Shank Van Eenige, 39, faces two felony counts of possession of child pornography with a victim under the age of 13, according to Chicago Police.

According to sources, Van Eenige is a second-grade teacher at Ariel Community Academy at 1119 E. 46th St.

"Chicago Public Schools' top priority is the safety and well being of its students," a statement from a CPS spokeswoman said.

"We take any allegations of illegal activity very seriously, and we are taking the appropriate steps to ensure our students are protected. We are cooperating with the Chicago Police Department and cannot comment on an ongoing investigation," according to the statement.

Van Eenige, of the 600 block of West 48th Street, is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
