Driver arrested after Chicago Police officer is hit by car on city's West Side
A Chicago Police officer was hit by a car whose driver was attempting to flee in Chicago's South Austin neighborhood late Saturday night.
At 11:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were patrolling on foot when they found a large crowd in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue, police said.
A 22-year-old man was attempting to drive off from the area in a gray sedan when he struck an officer with the car, police said. The officer fell to the ground and suffered an ankle injury.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested, police said.
The officer was taken to an area hospital in good condition, police said. The driver who hit the officer was taken to Loretto Hospital for observation and was also in good condition.
Harrison Area detectives were investigating Sunday. Charges were pending.
